Good Morning Students
We will continue with the exercises at the end of the chapter.

Let's discuss the two questions that were given for homework in the last class. (To be copied in the notebook)


1. What is the similarity among birds, reptiles and human beings? (Hint: How do they all breathe?)
Ans. The similarity between birds, reptiles and human beings is that they all breathe through lungs.

2. An eagle and an ostrich both have beaks, claws and feathers. Then what is the difference between them?

(Hint: How do they move?) 
Ans. An eagle can fly but an ostrich is a flightless bird.

We will begin with QC.
C. Answer the following questions. (To be copied in the notebook)

1. How is a frog adapted to live both in water and on land?
Ans. Frogs are amphibians so they have adaptations that help them live on land and in water. They can breathe through their lungs, as well as body surface. A frog breathes through its moist skin, when in water and with its lungs when on land.

2. What features of a bird's body help it to fly?
Ans. Birds have wings which help them to fly. The wings are attached to the large breast muscles. To make flying easier, a bird has light, hollow bones.

3. How is a fish adapted to live in water?
Ans. A fish breathes through gills which have a rich supply of blood vessels. The oxygen from water is absorbed by the gills and carbon dioxide is passed out.
Fish also has fins that helps it to move forward. The tail and fins help to change the direction.

4. Why do animals migrate? Give two examples of migratory animals.
Ans. Animals migrate from one place to another in search of food or to avoid harsh weather conditions or for breeding purposes.
Eg:- Locusts, Siberian Cranes

5. Describe movement in mammals.
Ans. Mammals have four well developed limbs. Animals like cows and dogs use all four limbs for walking and running. Human beings use only two limbs for walking, they are called hind limbs.

QUICK ASSESSMENT (pg-24)

A. Rewrite the following statements correctly. (To be copied in the notebook)

1. A whale is a fish and it breathes through gills.

2. Crow and pigeon are flightless birds.
Crow and pigeon are birds that can fly.

3. Carnivores have well developed incisors.
Carnivores have well developed canines.

4.Birds have teeth to eat their food.
Birds have beaks and claws that help them to eat their food.

5. Snakes have legs to move.
Snakes have scales and plates to move.

QB, C and D should be done in the text book.
