FIRST  AID  FOR DIFFERENT  KINDS  OF INJURIES

By the  end  of today's  lesson you will be  able to  :-
  • Write  the  first aid   that  is  to  be  given in  case  of  burns , minor and severe  burns .
  • Explain the  first  aid  given  for  minor  and  major  injuries.

FIRST  AID   FOR   MINOR  BURNS

What  are  burns??.................

Burns and scalds are damage to the skin caused by heat. Both are treated in the same way.
A burn is caused by dry heat – by an iron or fire, for example.
A scald is caused by something wet, such as hot water or steam.
Burns can be very painful and may cause:
  • red or peeling skin
  • blisters
  • swelling
  • white or charred skin
FIRST  AID FOR  MINOR BURNS:-

  • Put   the  burnt  area  immediately   under  cold  water . This  will prevent  the  formation  of  blisters.
  • Apply  burnol or  any  other  pain relieving  cream to the  burnt  area.

FIRST  AID   FOR  MAJOR   BURNS :-
  •   Put   the  burnt  area  immediately   under  cold  water .
  •   Major  burns  results  in  blisters.  These  blisters  should  not  be  pricked.

  •  If the  blister  opens  , wash the  area  with   soap  and  water.
  • Cover  it  lightly  with   a  clean  piece   of   cloth.
  • A  solution  of  baking  soda  and  water  can  be  applied  to the  burnt  area.
  • In  case  of  severe  burns  the  person  should  be  taken  immediately   to the  hospital.
  • Burns  due  to  chemicals  and  acids    should  be  washed  with  plenty  of  water.

WOUNDS

A wound is any type of injury that breaks the skin, and severity can range from a small cut to a deep puncture wound. To prevent infection and promote healing, all wounds need care.

 FIRST  AID MINOR WOUNDS
  • Wash  the  wound  with  soap  and  water.
  • Apply  an antiseptic  like  Savlon or Dettol
  • In case  of  bleeding  apply  ice on the wound
  • Cover the  wound  with  band aid.

FIRST  AID MAJOR WOUNDS

  • Wash  the  wound  with  soap  and  water.
  • If the  wound is  caused by a rusted  or dirty object then  an anti tetanus injection  should be taken.
  • In case  of  bleeding  apply  ice on the wound. If  the  bleeding  doesn't stop  a tight band called TOURNIQUET  is twisted  above  the  wound , this  is to apply  pressure  and  stops  bleeding.

Now you can copy down these question and answers :-
1)  What  is  a tourniquet?
